Negotiating Base Salary

I got an offer from one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the country to work for them. They offered me a base salary of around 86k and I want to negotiate it into the 90-95k range. From glassdoor, the average base pay for this position is 91K with very high confidence so I know that I could get more and I want to do everything I can to get at least 90k. I'm wondering what the best way to approach this is since I've heard horror stories of the employer rescinding the offer after some good-faith negotiation, which I don't want to happen here. How likely is it to happen and am I being unreasonable?

Some other factors:

  • The person who put together the offer is a technical recruiter who is separate from the team I'll be working with and it's the person I'll have to negotiate with.
  • Job listing called for 5-7 years but I have only 3 years of relevant experience that is valuable to them
  • I'm currently employed and like my job but would like to move on
  • job offer comes with standard relocation assistance, rental subsidy, and a lot of benefits
  • job is in bay area which is suuuuuper expensive
  • interviewers said that there will be no work-life balance (so like 50-60 hour weeks), which I'm fine with since I'm passionate about what I'm doing

I have a call with the recruiter on Monday so I have to be ready. I know that many people will just leave it like it is, but with big companies, are their initial offers usually lowballs and they expect you to negotiate higher? If so, how should I do it? I'm already reading "Never Split the Difference" this weekend. I've always punched above my weight my whole life and that's what I will continue doing.
