Is my employer trying to get rid of me?

Hi everyone

I don’t generally post on reddit and I’m on mobile so if the formatting is a bit off then sorry.

I’ve been working here for about a year now, and in May of this year I asked to be put onto full time as I needed the job security, (prior to this I was casual)

They put me on 6 month probation and everything was going swimmingly, I wasn’t falling behind on work projects and things were moving well, until the beginning of October. Suddenly my management team started flooding me with different jobs and things out of my job description, which rocked my boat a little bit and caused me to fall behind. I approached them and told them this was difficult to cope with and I can’t afford to be taking on this extra work load and I was told that if I was struggling, to work unpaid overtime. Overtime has not been mentioned anywhere in my year of employment here and they told me that they pay me enough to justify me working overtime to get these extra tasks done, and if I do not catch up, then I am not the right fit here. Since this discussion they have pushed me back to casual and told me they will not be passing me onto full time.

The fact that this all happened in the last month of my probation makes me feel that this was all set up for me to fail so they could get rid of me.

What can I do? The amount of overtime I would have to work to cope is ridiculous, and I’m not necessarily happy with this career as is so I am considering my options.
