I'm graduating with a BA in History/Political Science minor in April and really need to start figuring out my next steps as far as employment. I'm in a tough spot because the only jobs I've had are food service and retail roles. I've worked at my University's dining hall for 2 years in various roles. I tend to just focus on the catering aspects because at least that shows that I can be professional and interact with people, and not just cook and be a cashier. I also recently started working at a local flower shop as a sales associate about 5 months ago. I do very normal retail tasks. The only other job I have had is with my University's physical plant as a painter for two summers. I don't really know what to do. I want to go to law school eventually but I would prefer to get some real work experience first. I've applied to countless internships over the course of university, but haven't gotten any interviews. I also can't afford to drop everything and volunteer for free. I also haven't been active in many clubs or organizations due to the fact that I have had to work 30+ hours every semester since Sophomore year. My extracurriculars I consist of Phi Alpha Theta Honors Society and a human trafficking awareness group. I want to get a job with a non-profit organization, or as a legal assistant. I just don't know where to begin.
