So I just got this retail job, I'm 24f if that matters. I have another one as well of course to pay rent, and that job is great but not even close to being enough to pay my bills. I started training at the new job today and I was so excited when I was getting ready to walk in. It's a store I've shopped at for years and I knew a lot of the staff already and they're all genuinely friendly. But everything was so disorganized and a mess. The first thing they do is hand me a giant binder with all the company policies and tell me to read through it. That's fine, I think there are better ways to train people but I know I need to learn the policies somehow so I sit down and tried to get throigh it quickly while still absorbing the info. Then I'm taken onto the computer to go through everything I just read with the managers, they were taking turns going through the policies with me. And they just keep getting distracted and it made it really difficult for me to focus and absorb info. Like they kept going off on tangents together about random totally not work related topics, cursing on the floor, and me just standing there like a creep because I can't really do anything until I'm trained.... I hated just standing there and feeling like I was in the wrong for not going off and doing something more productive but again I was supposed to be getting trained and they weren't really focused on that and I can't do anything till I'm trained on what to do and how to do it. One of the managers even stopped training to scroll through Facebook for a bit while I just stood there! Then they didn't give me my break, illegal in my state, and they were so involved in their own little conversations that they forgot I was supposed to be off already and I ended up being there later than what I was scheduled. Now I can understand that all places of work has off days and days where things are totally out of the norm crazy. I really get it, and I want to give this place more of a chance than just one day but I was really upset with what happened today. Everyone is nice, no one treated me badly, but I did feel like my training wasn't being taken seriously. And there was another new employee there, she had been there a week, and she told me she wasn't even trained on the register yet because "the register is hard"...? Like it's too difficult to do or something....? Like they told her they were waiting to train her on it. If I'm being too harsh, I can accept that. But I've never had an experience like this at any retail job I've had before, or any job really, and it honestly just really upset me. I was so excited to start here and now I feel so disappointed and a little cheated. What should I do?
