So I've been working at this company for almost two years now. When I started out, I was immediately put on the graveyard shift. I feel I was kinda low-balled on salary as they where hiring me after coming off a professional sabbatical outside the country, meaning I was unemployed at the time. Anyways, so I started the job trying to negotiate somewhere around 55k a year. I based this off of my glassdoor value which was listed at 58k a year a the time. They ended up only paying me 50k a year and on graves as they really needed to fill the position. Me not having a job at the time, ended up taking the position. During my time there, there were performance metrics that needed to be met by the day team that they tried to apply to us during nights. It became apparent that we had far more challenges at night such as lack of resources, lack of communication with daytime operations, sleep deprivation, and not as many customer interactions. Due to this, it was nearly impossible for us to have identical metrics with the day team. We where pushed and pushed till my boss finally conceded that we should not be expected to perform like the day team. During this time, our metrics weren't measured side by side anymore. After a year, I submitted a request to be changed to days as the graveyards where taking a huge toll on my physical and mental health. It took nearly 9 months, but I finally got switched to days!!...at a huge paycut. So now I'm on days making only 43k a year. At the time right now, it's been worth it as I'm regaining my health and having a social life again. However, I'm being paid FAR BELOW my market value. If I was valued at 57k a year 2 years ago, with this additional experience, I should for sure at least be in 60ks now. My ask will be if I can just get the 50k I was making in graves while having a normal schedule. I want to tell them I'm fine with being underpaid but not RIDICULOUSLY underpaid(60 to 40). The problems I see here which I need advice on are the following:
1)Performancewise. I can't exactly say "look at me, I'm an above average performer; give me a raise" for obvious reasons on being in the graveyard shift. All the articles online on how to ask for a raise seem to revolve around this. Hence my question on here.
2) I just got switched to days and I have been on it for 3 months. Wondering if they will see me as too demanding as they already changed my schedule. Is 3 months long enough?
3)It historically takes FOREVER to make any change around here. Kinda worried they'll say "we'll look into it" like they did with graves till like 8 months pass at me making WAY below market value.
I want to tell them I would VERY MUCH rather have them give me the pay increase here as opposed to jumping ship to another company. This company has the best culture and atmosphere compared to any other place I've worked- bar none. Because of this, I don't want to leave but just want something a bit closer to my market value. I don't even feel like this is "a raise" and more of a "please pay me more fairly" request. Please advise, and thanks in advance
