What is the right way to accept a verbal offer?

Background: this is an extremely small firm. Salary range was posted for the role.

Obviously, there’s the standard “thank you very much, I am very excited for this opportunity. But do you mind sending me the offer in writing?”

But what about specifically when cornered about salary? Do we have much leverage after agreeing to a verbal offer or should try to negotiate upfront?

HR or HM: “ok, we have discussed benefits previously, so you know about that. Now the base salary is x with discretionary bonus”.

Me: “That is within the range of what we have talked about. But with my background and experience and the value I bring, I think x+10% is about the market for this role”.
