I have some questions about being a history teacher

So I have some questions about being a teacher. So most teachers are not paid much but I was looking at how much they get paid and I noticed that the 40,600$(https://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes251125.htm) at least and the average amount of money made in a household is 56,516$ per year. So I was wondering why do many teachers say they are underpaid. I was thinking of becoming a history teacher so I wanted to know more about the economic part of it. I want to major in history because it's my thing so I would like to know as much as possible about this thanks!
