how do you answer “tell me about yourself”?

i’m probably just really stupid but i can never properly answer this question during interviews. i don’t want to bore the interviewer but at the same time i don’t to say something stupid right off the bat and lose my chances at getting the job. i don’t just wanna say “i’m a student at (insert random school)” and then just proceed with everything.

also kinda off topic, i have a phone interview tomorrow and i’m supposed to call in first, how do i approach/introduce myself?
