Got a second job with promises made in the interview and nothings come of them since I started. Should I just go back to my other job full time?
I’m 26, recently got a job in my field as a restaurant manager with a family run business in my home town. Owner matched my pay with the job I had at the time (pharmacy technician) and told me in the interview that I would get 40 hours and insurance (I was 25 at the time of the interview). I told her I need two weeks notice for my other job but after a few days I decided to stay on as seasonal so that I could pick up random shifts and have a job that shows longevity (I had moved 4 times in 3 states in the last 2.5 years).
I started at the new job and only have worked 23-32 hours a week and no talk about insurance so I said hey I’m gonna pick up shifts at my other job on the days you don’t schedule me and get my insurance through them. She asked to talk to me and and said she sees no problem giving me a raise in the future because I’m doing a great job and then told me the price of my insurance (no paperwork on it) and told me to compare the plans and tell her how many hours I want.
Well to get where I need in a year with my savings goals I need to work 40 regular hours and 9 OT. I come back to work to tell her what I figured out and found out she’s across the country on vacation. When I told her before I wanted more than 30 hours she said I could pick up shifts- by asking people to give up their shifts as busser or host or something. Other managers have told me that they were asking for shifts before I started so now I know why there was some animosity when I started. She told me she didn’t want me working three days at my other job and then coming there and being dead to her by my second day.
I’m just conflicted because this restaurant is right by my house, in my field, and I hear the insurance is good but the other job the hours are set and there’s ample opportunities for OT and the insurance is slightly cheaper but my copays might be a little more. Drive is a little further too. Neither job is what I see myself doing for long term till retirement.
Logical answer is go for the job that has security right? I just don’t want to make the wrong decision. I’m also nervous to go into the meeting with a resignation and her trying to convince me to stay.
