my contract with my current employer ends in september and i want to get a feel for what my options are with other companies. i let my boss know that i wanted to weigh my options and might not decide to renew my contract. would it be a bad idea to ask for my boss to give me a reference in this situation since i may end up staying with the company? i have a decent relationship with her. there have been ups and down but we are friendly and i have done a good job for the company.
