Letters of rec and confidentiality. Need advice

(Also posted this in another subreddit, sorry if you're seeing it twice)

So I applied for my first job today (didn't submit any letters of recs. I know I should have, but they were optional so I was just giving it a shot), but the letter of rec area just had a place for me to upload a document on the application.

When I ask for letters of recs, do I just ask my professors to send me a copy of the letter so I can upload it myself? Will they think it's weird that I can read the letter? How do I even go about asking them to send me the letter directly? I thought most letters were usually confidential and that the writer submitted it directly to the hiring team.
