Is it weird to ask for an informal office visit?

There's a company that I would like to work for in a year or two (can't now due to current and upcoming obligations), and they have one of their offices in a city I am visiting on vacation in a few weeks. I had a thought that maybe I could reach out to the office manager and ask if it would be ok to stop by to learn more about the company in person. I would probably approach it from an educational perspective rather than making it obvious I want a position there, but nonetheless this would be a way to get my name out there for the future. Is this something people do or would someone asking for a visit from across the country be perceived as strange? If yes, what's the best way to go about this?
