Do I call back ?

So I just graduated HS a few months ago and have been looking for a part time job all summer without much luck. I had an interview at a retail store and they said they'd be sending me some sort of backround check which I've already filled out and sent back to them. This was about a week and a half ago and I still haven't gotten a call from them. Should I call them and make sure they got it to see if I'll be working there ? I'm very hesitant to call because I heard that some places don't like when you call because they take it as you not being able to be patient and wait. Also they didn't confirm I got the job but they did say they'd most likely have me come in in a couple weeks for training.
