I went to orientation for a temp. job yesterday. I was the first one there and the guy who checked me in asked if I had a start date. I said no, but that I was told to come to orientation this week so I can start Monday. He said he didn't have enough spots for everyone to start Monday, but that since I was there first, I could start then but not to mention it to the other people at orientation. I'm not sure if he jotted anything down or not. At the end of orientation, the person who gave us a tour (the person who will be creating my schedule) said everyone will probably be starting Monday (I guess she didn't know there weren't enough spots) but that she would be calling people to tell them their official start dates that day or the next (so by today).
I haven't heard anything. I called the only contact I have, the off hours number for the staffing agency, and they said they'd try to get someone to call me back about it. Looks like I might have to try again tomorrow. But if I don't hear by Monday morning, should I just show up and see? I'm not thrilled about the job so I kinda keep telling myself things like "well, it's their loss" or "I don't want to show up if it turns out I'm not actually starting yet". But at the same time it is the best option I have right now, as far as pay goes. Although I'm only a few weeks into my job search in this area, my bank account is draining like an hour glass loses sand...
I'm probably overthinking, but I'm worried I won't get in touch witj anybody on time and my only options will be to show up, possibly when I'm not needed, or not show up and miss out on my only full time opportunity so far and keep looking. I do have an interview next week for a part time position in a field that I'm more interested in, but I was hoping I'd get to try this one first. What would you do?
