Moving with no job

I'm leaving a job I had for only a year because I'm moving back home (Portland, Oregon) to live with family (and also I want to go back). I currently live in OH and work in public affairs for the DoD. I've been applying and looking for jobs for a few months and am starting to get really nervous about a job. My family says half the issue is that I'm not there yet but I'm concerned I won't get anything when I'm there.

Has anybody else done this or something similar? What was your experience?
