TL;DR at bottom.
I applied to a job back home that I’d consider my dream job. Made it through many interviews with tons of people, and they sent me an email saying they noticed I didn’t put a reference from where I currently work, and that they want my current supervisors contact information so they can get in touch.
I’ve never had this happen and it makes me very uncomfortable. I know I’m in the top 3 candidates (I was told that once I was brought in for the in-person interviews), however if I am not offered this job it could cause some negative reactions here if they know I applied elsewhere and that elsewhere is reaching out to them.
What do I do? My friends said I should tell the potential employer I’m not comfortable with that as it could cause a negative reaction here if I’m not offered the job and end up staying, and say that I’d be happy to give them the reference to my supervisor if I have a signed offer and accept it.
Any thoughts on this? Stressing me out a ton cause I REALLY want the job and I don’t have anything to hide but them asking for my current supervisor makes me very uncomfortable.
TL;DR - job I interviewed at wants my current supervisors contact information to use as a reference. Makes me uncomfortable as it could make things awkward if I’m not offered the new position.
