I have recently started a job and in the contract it says my probation period is 26 weeks. During this time my notice to resign is 1 week and the same for the company to let me go (UK large company with over 10,000 employees).
I have found another job which i intend to start in a couple of months. Should I wait until the last minute to hand in my notice or should I do it a month in advance (I feel this is more courteous and respectful)? I am worried that if I do it a month or more in advance they might just cut me anyway with a weeks notice but I feel rude only giving one weeks notice.
Basically what I am asking is if I hand in my notice with a resignation date of say 6 weeks time could they just end my employment in a week and leave me jobless for 5 weeks?
