First time getting a job

Hey guys I was trying to get a job for the summer and I’ve never done this before so I have a few questions. I applied to a lot of places (30-35) but all online for a lot of different positions. I’ve gotten 1 response from McDonald’s and it didn’t work out because they were looking for a permanent person and I can only work during the summer. I’ve gotten maybe like 5 other responses all basically telling me sorry the positions are filled. I don’t want summer to end and not have a job. Some of my friends told me if I go in store and hand in my resume I’ll have a better chance. Is this true? I’d really like any advice I can get. Thanks
