I graduated with my MPA June 2018 and started a job July 2018. The job was not what I thought it would be, and I was so miserable that I left after 6 months with nothing lined up. I moved to LA for this job, but moved back to Washington after leaving because at least we could mostly afford to live with my unemployment. I left that job Dec 1, 2018 and here I am pretty much 7 months later.
I have had several interviews, but have been passed up. I am currently regretting turning down an offer I got months ago because the pay wasn't good enough. At least I would have had a job... Really kicking myself for that one (but really, it was like 17k less than my last job and wouldn't have been sustainable).
I've gotten some great resume advice, I feel like I'm pretty good in interviews, I have some solid experience (less professional full-time experience than my other MPA counterparts because I went straight to grad school after my BA. That said, I have held a fair amount of jobs and internships). I just think there's always someone more qualified than me.
If you're wondering, my experience is primarily in government and non-profits. At this point, I'll take what I can get. I just am dying to get back to work and a normal life.
If any of you have been in this situation, I would really appreciate your advice and what helped you get through it. This is an emotionally distressing time as you can imagine. Really, any help is appreciated.
