I started a new job about 10 months ago and everything has been great. I really enjoy the people I work with, the company offers amazing benefits, and the overall work environment has been positive.
My immediate supervisor has just accepted another position within the company leaving their position open. I'm considering applying for it. My goal is to continue working with the company but in a different career field that I am currently pursuing a degree for. Having a supervisory job within the company would definitely benefit me once I'm ready to transition into that career. It would also offer a significant pay increase.
My hesitation to applying is that I have been working in my position for less than a year and have not yet learned all aspects of the job. However, I'm confident I will be able to pick them up quickly as I have had little difficulty with learning my current job assignments. I also have previous supervisory experience that would help with my qualifications. My other concern is that I might come off in a negative way trying to advance within my job so quickly.
Another opportunity like this might not come up again for a few years. Should I take the opportunity to apply as they are few and far between? Or should I gain more experience with my current position before applying to any supervisory roles?
