How can I leverage strengths from partial college experience to land for a job that I can actually benefit long-term from? [Accounting/Finance]
Some backstory (Skip ahead if you don't care about the small details):
About a year ago, I had to take some time off college because my parents went through a messy divorce and weren't able to help out with paying my school bills. Not a big problem—but they didn't let me know they wouldn't be able to help in time for me to apply for financial aid for the semester, and I ended up having to use all my savings to pay off my college bills for that semester. It really put me behind and I ended up having to drop out halfway through the next semester due to not having enough money to pay for the mid-semester bill, and have been out of school since. I'm getting out of a rut and am trying to get my life back on track.
I'm in the accounting program (was in?) at my school, which is a 5-year program where I receive my bachelor's and master's degree at the same time at the end of my 5 years. I'm a little lost right now and not sure whether I want to switch to finance (a lot of the credits I've taken apply to both programs) so I can just get my degree and start working full time.
On to my question
Anyways I'm looking for a job like a teller or a bookkeeper (really anything accounting/finance related) in my college town but I haven't had any relevant internship experience yet in either field. Really hoping to find something that pays ~$15/hr to help get me back on track and something in those fields so I can utilize that experience when searching for future jobs.
I just turned 24 less than a month ago and right now I don't feel confident with my current resume that I'll have an easy go at being hired for most of the jobs I'm looking for.
Here's my current resume & here's a list of all the credits I've taken, a lot being relevant to both fields.
How can I leverage my class experience on my resume to make me see qualified for the jobs I'm looking for? I know a lot of it will be on me to pull out what I think is relevant, but just looking for some guidelines on what I should/shouldn't include. (Would these companies care about volunteer/extracurricular experience?)
Can anyone point me in the direction of some resume templates that have a good balance of job experience and skills/proficiencies?
I know this is a lot to read through... I really appreciate anyone who takes the time to lend some advice
