Switching jobs in the beginning of June and not sure how to maintain insurance coverage.

My start date for my new position is June 4, which is a Tuesday. I won't get new benefits at my new job until July because I'm starting after the 1st of the month.

I'm going to put in my two weeks notice at my current job on Monday. My thought is that if i make June 3rd my last day then they will have to give me benefits for the month of June since i worked partly in that month. I'm not sure if they are required to though and I'm afraid to ask HR directly in case they catch on to my strategy and refuse to give me my insurance for that month.

Does anyone have any insight on this situation?
