Something worth contacting boss about?

My boss is out today and tomorrow. His out of office is on with no access to emails. There is a new pilot program where we can work one day a week from home.

He prefers email requests for this, but he is out tomorrow and was today with no email. Should I just text and ask? Or email? Or can I not do it?
