Hi all, I'm new here-- and also venting. Forgive me if I broke any rules. (I've reviewed them but I'm not sure)
Recruiting Coordinator Position
Had a phone interview in a company that I think I would enjoy and fit in based on social media presence and tone of the company, everything was fine, I explained to her what I did in my past internship experiences and she agreed that the company would be a good place for me to continue my career. She hung up the phone after saying "the next steps would be for you to meet with the others in the office soon, and have a good weekend." I couldn't say thank you to her for her time etc. So that was suppper weird, cause her voice sounded like the customer service voice when you can't be rude...I know cause I've been there.
I think I made two interviewing errors; 1. I announced my salary expectations (within range of current market) I had done research for this position for that company prior, so while I was hesitant to answer, I still answered cause I did research but I really regret it because it really was the first time I interacted with her company, and I should've just tried to dodge it. 2. She snuck up on me with a question right before she said "the next steps" part. I'm still relatively new in the job hunt (I get interviews but I don't pass them), so I actually never heard of this question before and she asked it: "are you interviewing with anyone else?" I told her an honest answer because I wasn't prepared for the question, "yes..." and I blanked out completely in terms of saying things along the lines of showing her that I'm actually more interested in HER company instead, so I just finished that sentence with the actual company that I have another phone screening with.
I really doubt she'll reach out to me for an in-person interview, I feel like she ghosted me already and it's kind of sad. But I also noticed that she NEVER offered the chance for me to ask her any questions. She just really hung up after "have a good weekend."
Do you guys think it's a red flag? Were my errors that striking? We were discussing an entry level role and I have 3 years of experience in.
I also tend to hate using phrases that sound too staged, but I also don't want to be informal when speaking, how can I overcome this? Example with the salary expectations question: I don't want to say "I don't have a good estimate right now because we are still at the initial stage of the interview process" How can I say something that doesn't sound so snobby and just have a good over all positive tone?
Thank you!
