So I work at a education institution. I was in the office with a few collegues they were having random conversations, some were work related. There are two tables in the office, we were sitting in one and I saw students sitting at the other table. I did not think much of it since it's normal for students to go there and the office is usually loud since it's where professors go to make copies, run scantrons, talk, check their emails, etc. Inside the office there are 2 small offices. Inside in one of those offices, there was one of our higher-ups. He yells what sounds to me, "Can you guys shut up? there are people taking exams here!" They quickly apologized and stopped talking.
The issue that I'm having is that out of all the times professors have been in and out of that office, being loud and laughing while students are taking exams, this was the time when this individual decided to yell at them to shut up or be quiet. Also the fact that I remembered a day when I didn't want to run the scantron machine because they are loud and students were taking exams so I asked my boss if I should and he said that work has to be done, it's not our (office staff) fault those students missed class and now have to take those exams in a less than ideal place. Students that are taking exams in that office is due to absences.
Now what has me thinking me is that this person, who was so concerned about the noise levels that particular day, decided to yell loudly from her office (which was next to the students) instead of coming out and telling them to be quiet. I found it ironic, rude, and unprofessional.
What do you guys think?
I've always been someone who overthinks about the smallest things especially when stressed out (like right now due to finals). Maybe I'm just overthinking this, but for some reason it bothered me.
