Been at my job for a little less than three months. Last week on Monday towards the end of the day, my boss told me and my coworker that she was going on medical leave for at least a month and that she wouldn't be there starting the following day. No heads up. My coworker and I would be inheriting reports she worked on.
Yesterday I was working on creating one of the reports she worked on. She gave me a step by step guide to reproduce it and we also worked on the report once together on her computer. Mind you, building this report involves updating about 7 Excel files and an Access file.
Well, when I followed the steps on my computer, things didn't want to work because she had these files pointing at local paths that were based on her machine, not mine. So I had to change that. Then, for some reason, I got messages when running the Access file that didn't run on her machine. I mentioned this to my coworker, but she couldn't really help.
So I've spent all day today trying to troubleshoot the problem (I don't have much Access background) and haven't made much progress. Because the Access file has some sort of auto save feature, it saved as the "error-producing" version I had to deal with rather than the original file. Needless to say, I haven't finished the report and I screwed up the file even though I'm still trying to fix it. I'm 100% certain I hadn't modified the file when I got the error.
I'm also worried because I've been making quite a number of mistakes. My team's report building process in general is very tedious and has a lot of steps that it's easy to get confused on. I'm used to automating things through programming but they don't have a similar background and are used to their programs, so I agreed to learn it. I'm just worried I might lose my job.
