People with experience interviewing candidates, how would I set up an interview that doesn't give a big advantage for planning and preparation?
I'm a skeptic of interviews that demand a lot of practice in order to stand a high chance at getting an offer. This often favors the people that have more free time to rehearse and practice, especially in my field of software development where a portion of the questions are highly technical in nature.
In other words I don't want to handle interviewing as if it's a test that you have to have cram study sessions for. I want the interview to just draw on a person's real world experience to solve the problems and answer the questions asked. Studying and prep for these types of interviews should yield diminishing returns. What have you done in your own interviews to favor leveraging real-world experience?
