Hi all ! I’m in need for some advice on how to handle a job situation...
Right now I’m in my first company, they took me in kinda overselling the job.
I am a software engineer and I was sold a post that would allow me to grow as an engineer... fast forward two years later I’m stuck in a shitty post with coworkers that are much more paid and have absolutely terrible skills. When I report to management their lack of skills nothing happens, when I suggest ideas to improve I’m turned down by the “there is nothing in it for me” kind of mentality...
The technology stack is ancient, no one would do such things unless they are 55-60 years old, which was not planned at all during the recruitment...
Also no possibilities to grow higher as everything is “locked” I’ve met people doing 20 years the exact same thing... which is a no go.
Every employee hates on the company and the upper management treats us horribly wrong (over hours not compensated, holidays “disappearing”, etc)
The last straw was discovering how underpaid I am last week. Out of the blue I got a call from a recruiter asking me stuff and saying that a company would be interested in having me with a minimum salary that is 40% higher then what I own now (which honestly shocked me)
I completely lost interest in that company, I am not interested at all in the industry, I want to leave... basically I’m completely demotivated.
It pays bills but that’s about it.
I applied in a couple of places and I’m waiting for news from such places but nothing is certain.
My question is how to handle the job until I find something else, because right now I browse reddit and feel my life passing by me... ?
How does one fake their interested until going away ?
Also how does one should inform the boss (which is the only ok person here) that I want out/have something else ?
I have never done this (leaving a company) and so it’s kind of scary to do so, I have no idea how to approach this...
