Was I ghosted after being hired?

I was hired by a company for doing remote analysis, complete with a written letter. However, after sending all of my forms over (including a background check) I’ve not heard anything from the company in the form of an email. The day I submitted the forms my (to-be manager) emailed me to “stay tuned” for work. It’s been 12 days since without any notice from the manager.

An email that I sent out today did not receive a response as well. Could this be due to background check reasons ? Or was I booted off a job after being hired?
