Trying to return to the workforce after my husbands sudden passing- how do I explain the two year gap in my work history without having to explain to interviewers? It’s still very hard for me.
My husband and I were together since were were both 16, married at 23, and he passed when we were 27. l was a teacher at the time, but I had to take time off work and I moved back in with my mom and have barley left the house for these past two years- I was in a very dark depression. My former school is closing at the end of this year due to lack of funding- so I must seek employment elsewhere with nowhere to return to. Emotionally I’m not ready, but financially I don’t have a choice any more. I know this isn’t /r/offmychest or anything- but I just thought some context was relevant. How do I explain to interviewers what I have been doing for the past two years without getting into specifics? How do I keep from having negative assumptions about why I quit my job and have been out of work for two years? I’m sure most of my contacts will vouch for what a great teacher I was when I was around, but I haven’t been great at staying in touch with anyone these past two years- let alone work colleagues. Application season is coming up for teachers and I just want to arm myself with responses. Thank you guys.
