So I’ve been pretty thoroughly involved with this nonprofit over the past two years. I’ve volunteered at their annual event twice. I received a travel scholarship through them, I was seated with the board of directors at the event this past year.
One of the members of the board of directors was super nice, told me to follow up with her so she can see how to help me as I’m finishing up my masters this semester and starting my job search. I mentioned that I’d love to work for this organization, and she cc’d me on an email to the CEO, I sent in my resume. A few days later I got a call out of the blue from the CEO, he asked if I’d be in the area, I said I did have a break when I could make the trip for an in person interview. He says let’s do a phone interview first and gives me the email of a guy in the company to follow up with.
I email this guy, he asks for some times when I could do an interview. I tell him. Nothing. He emails again to ask, I give him several time ranges. Nothing. At this point I kinda gave up, it was finals season so I was focused on that.
A few weeks ago the CEO emails me again, saying [employee I’ve volunteered with] gave him my resume again and reminded him I’m graduating soon and he wanted to know if I was still interested and if so to follow up with that same employee (who he CC’d on the email). I emailed her the next day, NOTHING. I wait a week and email the CEO directly and just said that I haven’t heard back from that employee yet but I wanted to confirm that I was definitely still interested.
He asked me when would be a good time for a phone interview for this week. I gave him two 3hr ranges when I’d be available this week and NOTHING. I emailed today to (as nicely as I could) say I didn’t hear from anyone, is there a time next week that works best for them.
But honestly now I’m wondering if it’s just a really disorganized company/work environment, or if this is typical for the hiring process? It seems bizarre that the one most willing to contact me is the CEO...
