New position created with almost the same exact responsibilities as my current position but $10+ an hour more and I wasn't even interviewed or considered for the position.

I work in a lab setting where we test tech products all day long. The project has been going on for 10 years and I've been here for 9 of those years. The project has grown quite a bit over the years and our testing has become quite valuable to the customer. I have had the role of managing this lab with the help of 1 other person who helped set up the lab's infrastructure. For the past 9 years I've been responsible for keeping the testing going, no matter what. Have received no complaints about how I conduct myself at work and I always get my work done. Because the project has grown so much recently, (when I say grown I mean more products are being added to the lab) our customer has requested that an official "Lab Manager" position be created for someone to dedicate their time to do every thing I already do myself minus the daily testing responsibilities.

The job posting for this lab manager job mentioned nothing about requiring a degree. Every single detail in the job posting is a task I DO everyday and have been doing for YEARS. The only single thing listed in the job posting that I don't currently do is to lead a weekly meeting about our status which isn't a big deal. I've been going to the weekly meetings for years.

Anyway, the new position pays $10 more an hour than I currently make. So, of course I applied for a job that I already knew would be a huge promotion for me salary wise AND because the job posting described every responsibility I've already had for the past 9 years.

I got all excited to be interviewed but 3 days after the job posting closed, my boss gathered us into a conference room and told us about the woman he's hiring for the role. I was crushed and confused. He said she has 2 degrees (CS and Mathematics) He said "she's a problem solver."

She is on one of those knee rider things because she has spine and foot problems. The job is very physical, I'm expected to be able to lift 50 lbs several times a week. If I'm out of the office, she definitely would have trouble with this. So now I'm expected to train her up with all the knowledge I've accumulated over the past 9 years. My boss even said, "she's not going to step on any toes." The lady who was hired complains daily about the noise in our lab. The product we test is basically tested way past it's life expectancy and yes, they occasionally squeak but it's very rare. Because of the "noise" and her "migraines" she is outside of the lab like 90% of the time. She comes in at 10am or 11am and leaves at 6pm. Everyone else is here from 7 to 430ish. She's not even here when we'd need her help and isn't visible in the lab where everyone works most of the time either.

Her multiple health issues are definitely affecting her ability to do the work. She told me she has crashed her knee scooter 2x since she's started work up here. She complains about the sharp corners and not being able to see if someone is going to turn a corner. She has crashed her fucking scooter into the walls.

I feel like my boss has given her a job as a favor to someone else in the organization. I think she was a pain in the ass in some other group and they couldn't let her go due to her health issues so they just moved her somewhere else. For as long as I've been here, I've never seen a manager that I've worked for FIRE someone. Usually they are laid off when layoffs occur very rarely and not called back or they are moved onto another group to be someone else's problem.

Another co worker said he applied for the job too and also wasn't given a chance to interview. It's so strange and infuriating. I've come to the understanding that this is a dead end job for me. My boss doesn't actually consider if someone will even be good for the position. I've already starting applying for other jobs and have found with my 15+ years total here that I'm worth WAY more than I ever thought I was.

I am just dumbfounded that a new person was hired with all the same exact responsibilities as me and makes $10+ more an hour than me AND I'm expected to train her AND that she's barely able to do the job due to her multiple medical issues.

Do I wait it out? Wait for her to get so crippled/hurt to where she can't come into work anymore? Should I even expect to get an interview then? Is it wrong that this just seems so incredibly wrong?
