Is it unwise for me to take a big pay cut the year before grad school?

I’m making ~68 right now. I’m trying to leave the job ASAP because of office culture, ridiculous hours, and my supervisor. I was offered a job at another office that is really interesting and the office culture seems amazing, but it only pays 40. Is this such a stupid decision that i shouldn’t even be considering it? I’m hoping to start grad school in the fall of 2020, so I really only need the job until next summer. I can definitely survive off 40k for a year - I’m lucky enough to have a good living situation in an expensive city - but I’ve never had to take a pay cut before and it’s a little hard to swallow.

The only other thing I can think of is to decline and hope the other jobs I applied to that pay more respond, but that feels like I’m just declining something in the hopes that something might happen. Which seems a little ridiculous, but it would suck to hear back from those companies after I already accepted this job...

Any thoughts?
