After applying for a position at a large company, I was contacted by the recruiter for a phone screening. We discussed my academic background, experience, and what my current comp/future comp expectations are. I gave an honest and transparent answer about what I make vs what I expected to make (was told it was in line with their pay range). 3 interviews later, I received a call from the director indicating that they wanted to bring me on board, but due to future restructuring, they wanted someone with my skill set on a similar team in a different department. I agreed, contingent on a phone call with my new manager so I can see who I’d be working with and if the job itself is staying the same. After this call, I received an offer from HR for 20k less than my current salary and a lower title (even lower than my current). Despite discussing my title, agreeing on a salary range and taking time off to interview, I was offered a package well below my value. I really wanted to work for this company, but im incredibly annoyed by this experience and will be turning down the offer. Is it unprofessional to call them out on the bait and switch (obviously in a professional tone)?
