Girlfriend started a new job a few months ago as a Creative Learning Designer. The actual description of the job is basically her dream job, but her manager has issues communicating her needs clearly. Manager will ask girlfriend to "take the reins" on a particular project, and later state "this isn't what I was asking for". Girlfriend has taken up the strategy of asking many many questions when given a task. This is apparently frustrating Manager and Manager's responses to questions are typically nonsensical and incomplete, leading to more "this isn't what I was asking for".
Apparently everyone in the department has the same issue with Manager. Department has very high turnaround because of Manager.
I thought about recommending going above Manager, but that can be dangerous, especially considering how new Girlfriend is.
How can girlfriend either refine her questions or manage her Manager better to develop a better work environment and relationship with Manager?
