Best possible way to explain gap in employment?

So i graduated with a degree in the life sciences back in may of 2018 and since then I have done absolutely nothing except typical basement dweller stuff. I lazily applied over the course of 2018 and have gotten several interview, but I would always sabotage myself by not preparing. I don't know why but its finally hit me that I need to find employment and I am freaking out. I have a phone interview Friday and I'm not sure how to explain my gap in work history.

Should say that I've been traveling? Should I lie about working anon-relevant part time job?

I'm trying to find a job in the biotech industry if that has any relevance at all.
