Hi all, I have recently completed an MBA and have begun to apply for careers in Higher Education. I have over 2 years experience in business operations and compliance experience in Higher Education (In particular, athletics) settings and 8 total years of budget management / supervisory experience overall. I graduated in early December and applied for six positions that I believed were the perfect fit for my skills, experience, and education before and over the holidays (Late November - Dec 27th.)
Every position I have applied for is listing my job application status as "Under Review" and none have been updated. But I have not heard anything back at all. How long do these things take? Or are they just stringing me along because I am qualified but just live in another state? (I don't want to remain in Texas.)
Another thing that I worry is dragging me down is that I didn't get by Bachelor's until I was 32 and my MBA until I was 34. Maybe they feel I am overqualified for these positions? The positions I am applying for are director of Business Ops that require 2-5 years experience and a Bachelors degree.
I'm ready to just quit, throw in the towel and go back to work as a waiter or something. But I have a family, I am older in life (35) and we've all made tons of sacrifices to get this MBA. We moved our family across states to a place where we don't fit in to get the experience/education that we hoped would set me aside from fellow candidates. So far, it doesn't seem to be paying off though and now it has me questioning all of my past decisions.
Any help, guidance, or insight anyone can offer on this situation would be greatly appreciated as I'm pretty deflated by this whole experience.
