Union wages.

I recently joined a union and from what I saw on the website and according to my paperwork, I would get paid 22.50(before taxes and deductions) to start. According to my union handbook and my company, starting wage is 18.50(before wages and taxes) I can survive off of 18$/hr but that's pretty huge difference between the two wages.

I know that there's probably nothing that I can do but am I able to do something about it?
