I told my manager I was applying for an internal posting. He encouraged me to apply and said I had his full support. I nailed the interview, 2 people on the 3 man panel told me I was their number 1 rated candidate afterwards, the other was the hiring manager who was obviously not allowed to disclose favorites.
Fast forward a couple of weeks, I get notified that I was not successful as they opted to go with someone who more experience with one of the required skillsets. Fair enough, I could probably work on it. Fast forward a week. My manager advises me a colleague got the job. This colleague has far less experience in the previously mentioned skillset. I called my manager out on it and he made other excuses and none of them lined up.
I suspect he told them they couldn't take me because I'm too valuable to him. I'm the most multi-disciplined on the team and the KPIs back up that I do the most work. It's almost review time and I'm expecting a much smaller raise (probably inflation) than I would have gotten with the promotion.
I'm going to go to one of my old manager's who's always had my back and been real with me and ask her if she'll be a reference and start looking for jobs. Then when review period comes around I'll tell them I want a 20% raise and more paid leave. Hopefully my old manager passes on the news to my current manager so they know I'm serious. If I don't get near my demands I leave.
It's the first time I've feel like I've been screwed on the down low. At least my other shitty jobs always did it to my face... Just wondering if anyone thinks I should handle this differently.
