Hello everyone! I need some advice and making sure this resignation letter is okay. I was working with a professor of mine last semester in his department but due to family medical circumstances (my mother has cancer and I've had to completely redo my schedule for classes and move back home) I would be unable to put in the hours. Now, I absolutely do not want to do this in person bc this professor always had a very nasty and negative attitude belittling the students and always had a problem with us as a class. So, working for this prof gave me terrible anxiety as they were emotionally abusive. I cannot complain to anyone bc nothing will be done about it.
So, I would like to make sure that this email doesn't sound like I am being nasty in anyway and it is to the point.
This professor also did not pay me for more than half the time I worked (started out working and getting used to the place while my "paperwork" was being filled out) Worked August-November didn't get paid until middle of October once. I am letting you guys know to give some background about why I just can't get myself to tell them face to face.
Here's the letter:
Good afternoon Dr. X,
My apologies for notifying you by email, however, due to circumstances with my mother's medical care over the break I will be unable to continue working (title and place of work) for the Spring 2019 semester.
I appreciate the opportunities I have been given working as an assistant in the (place of work) and for your professional guidance over the course of last semester. I truly appreciated the experience and hands-on skills learned in your department.
