Yes it’s a throwaway
Some quick background: Back in early Dec an internal HR employee at a well known tech agency reached out to me with a position they are looking to fill. Fast forward 4 interviews later with the following: HR screening, Technical focused, Manager, Senior Lead at an in-person interview.
After the final interview I made sure to follow up and check all the expected boxes there. Several days went by and I received an email back with the following:
I connected with Manager from interview 3 and the rest of the team and they are taking a step back and evaluating current projects and resource allocations. That said, this will take a little bit of time, however you are our one of our top candidates. Jane Doe, our Talent Acquisition Lead (CC'd on this email), will be back in touch with you as soon as there is clarity on the above so we can proceed.
I’m not really sure how I should structure a reply here, is this a nice way of “putting me on file”, or does this seem like a more legit process? I do know they don’t have anyone in the position currently, and my first thought is that as an agency perhaps they didn’t close a project they expected to. Or maybe there’s another candidate ahead of me and I’m choice 2, they want to see if choice 1 works out before coming back to me. Or maybe it’s just the next generation of ghosting and Jane Doe doesn’t exist(?).
Any feedback/thoughts would be appreciated.
