Is there a word for micromanaging, but in the good sense?

I work with internal clients in the corporate world. I'm more technical than business or client focused, though my jobs tend to have a small element of client engagement depending on what the manager asks us to do.

I think I work best if given clear instructions on what to do, because if I make a lot of decisions by myself (could I, would I, should I), I find that my style doesn't exactly match my manager's expectations towards clients. There would be differences in approach, tone, and leniency.

That said, my manager's style changes often. Maybe I don't have enough experience or my manager is fickle. My manager was clear in that he doesn't like to give instructions, yet he expects me to act like a clone of him and be able to read his mind. I'm considerably younger than most in the office, so maybe I just think differently?

TL;DR

How do I mention that I like to be micro-managed/like hand holding, but not in the negative way? I don't want someone breathing down my neck and checking in on me every 30 mins. And yet I don't want to be left to fend for myself.

I just need more guidance throughout the job, to which some managers might dislike. I don't want to sound to them like I'm saying "Duuuhhh, I don't know how to breathe, derp derp, don't hire me".

What's the proper word for this?
