I was rejected from a position I really felt confident about getting, can someone interpret what this email from them means?

Thanks again for your time throughout the process.  At this time, we have decided to move forward with other candidates at this point in time.  We are in the process of building out a pipeline with the expectation that we will have a few more roles available in the next 3-4 months.  I will reach back out to you at that time to reengage on your interest and to see if you are still in the market.

I'm just sort of confused. I know what it means literally. Usually, the rejection letters I'll get will be in the more generic format "many great candidates, including you, but yada yada yada...." But I've never had one where they said they will be openly engaging in a few months.

If that were the case, why not offer me the job now? I assume that means they like me? Or are they just trying to let me down easy? I'm honestly not sure, so if anyone could potentially decipher this and help me read their mind a bit, it'd be huge.
