Graduated in December, and started my first full time position. Seeking advice on how to make a strong impression.

I landed a job with a good salary, and I just started Monday. These last few days have been tough, because it's been a flurry of meeting all kinds of people and training on all kinds of subjects. I feel like I am not contributing at all, like I still have no idea what to do when the time comes, and constantly concerned about making a good impression.

The good news is everyone has been very nice and helpful, but I feel like I am having trouble retaining it all. My boss told me to schedule all these training sessions, and to have them done by the end of the week. He advised me to schedule an hour, but the employees training me only take half that time a lot. This kind of leaves me with down time, in which I review notes, and look over other things. I don't want any downtime, and it's hard to fill my time.

When I was reviewing today, one of my new supervisors came over and wanted to make sure I had enough things to do and I wasn't just sitting. Maybe for some reason, I feel like he thought I was just sitting to not do anything, but I was reviewing things like I was told. I don't know, maybe he was just making sure I was sitting idle. Luckily, I had a packed schedule and a little bit of down time.

Also, to make a good impression, I tried to stay later to work on things, but mostly everyone leaves by 4:30 or 5. One girl told me no one stays until 5 on Fridays, so I am trying to find other ways to stand out.

Any advice?

Edit: I also feel kind of like their second choice for this position. To clarify, one of my friends interned there and I guess they reached out to him for an interview, but he accepted something else. This makes me kind of feel like a second choice.
