Asking for a family member. Due to growing up very poor, he never had an opportunity to finish high school. Going back to get his GED was put on the back burner when he missed passing the test by a few points. 25 years later and the job he's had is likely going away due to the business owner retiring. He's going to be looking for a job soon and one that requires a high school diploma is likely going to have benefits like health insurance. If he were to lie and say he has a high school diploma, would a background check know?
I understand what I'm asking would mean he would be lying on a job application; I'm not looking for any educational moments on that. While its up to him to risk lying, we're also talking about a 55 year old with plenty of experience in the meanial areas that he would be applying (painting, maintenance, etc) for employment. Unfortunately, without the diploma, his options are extremely limited and he may not be able to find employement.
