Coworker fears losing job, what is the decent thing to do?

There's a new head of school at my job and he is doing housecleaning. Many people fear losing their jobs next year. I work in a department with three people. In this head's last school, there was only one person in that department. My coworker mentioned, on my birthday, that she was ready to lose her job if need be, and she'd be fine. Really, it would be me or her. Normally I would not care but it got to me because her son killed himself summer, and she is the nicest woman around. This year she has been on edge and critical at times of me, completely understabable, so as a result I've been keeping to myself.

I'm not going to take the job next year. I'll be moving out of state to live with my boyfriend. I know this. It might be foolish to reveal this too early - I could lose my job. What I could do to ease her mind is tell her that if it were me or her, I'd go. It would also lessen the critical comments I am getting constantly from her and other related departments who also feel this fear and want to put others down to secure their spots. What should I do?
