Corporate says I need to inform my (franchisee) boss that I'm interviewing for a corporate position before I interview
I'm a manager for a franchised store. I am interviewing for a corporate position on Monday. But because my role is so vital, I have to inform my franchisee that I'm interviewing for the job, before I interview for the job.
Background. Been with my franchisee for 12 years and have been manager for four. I'm incredibly vital to the store. I'm the highest paid manager in my city hands down ($19/hour not including bonuses) because he wants to keep me and he doesn't like working or being around the store, so he let's me take care of everything, and I do. He won't be happy at all because it means he has to drastically alter his time and lifestyle or find someone else like me.
But the job is suffocating me and it's been 12 years, and I really, really love this unique corporate position that will grant me freedom and help me thrive.
I'm going to tell him tomorrow because I want the job and have no choice, but I wanted to post here for advice and thoughts first.
I'm very likely to get the job, the right hand man of the decision maker is pushing for me hard and really wants me in, too. I'm very confident I'll get the job but you just never know, and I'm not putting all my eggs in one basket.
What do you guys think? How do I navigate this?
