I interviewed with a firm for position A, but after meeting with the team made a great impression and they realized that my skills could be better utilized in position B. Position B would have been my dream job, so it was not a had sell, but yet they spent 3 weeks pitching me this different role. I got super excited. Then I learned that due to some last minute changes they are going to offer me position A (which I’m less than enthusiastic about at this point, but is what I applied for), but I would still get to do the responsibilities of position B (the work I’m a lot more excited to do). After thinking about this a bit more... I’m not sure how to handle this. Do I ask for a hybrid title that reflects that I am doing both A and B? Should I agree to take role A temporarily until I can find a solution for this position which would allow me to move to/focus on role B? Any thoughts/suggestions on what I should be doing in this situation would be greatly appreciated.
