Are prospective employers skeptical of applicants who claim they quit their last job without already having a job in hand?
Last week I was separated from my company and was given an option to be terminated or to resign. I chose to resign out of principle and so that I could say that I quit my last job at future interviews, but am not sure if I made the right choice. When prospective employers are considering applicants and an applicant resigns her position without having a job in hand, do they tend to be skeptical of the applicant?
On a related note, given that I was afforded the opportunity to either be fired or to resign, is it necessarily unethical to say that I quit my job when I was really forced to choose one or the other?
