I have a Master's in public health and a second Master's in anthropology. I've had a hard time finding a job in my area since finishing grad school last Spring and am currently working part-time. I found out recently that I will be getting laid off in June (for the second time in 2 years, yay grant work).
Today I got an interview offer for a local large business to coordinate their employee wellness program - company wide. This is a great opportunity for me to actually use my degree, but I'm worried I'll be laughed out the door when I get there for the interview. I am obese and I feel like a company would not want an obese person teaching their employees how to be healthy.
I have struggled with my weight for the majority of my life now (perfect storm of parents with unhealthy relationships with food, depression, and a medical condition that I've often had to neglect because I could not afford care). I am active and working on my weight and health, but I am very worried this is holding me back.
My question: Should I address my weight in the interview? I wouldn't even consider this for another position, but I feel my weight will the the elephant in the room (pun intended).
